Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Francisco CA
908 PM PST Fri Mar 7 2025
...New AVIATION, MARINE...
.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 107 PM PST Fri Mar 7 2025
Dry conditions prevail through the weekend, with daytime
temperatures warming to near seasonal averages. Chilly inland
mornings continue for the next couple of days. Wet weather returns
next week with an impactful system towards the middle of the
upcoming week.
&&
.UPDATE...
Issued at 846 PM PST Fri Mar 7 2025
The forecast remains on track tonight, with clear skies and cool
temperatures for the overnight into early Saturday. Rain returns
to the forecast next week, however there has been a shift toward
lesser rain amounts for the system expected to impact our area for
the middle of next week.
&&
.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Saturday)
Issued at 107 PM PST Fri Mar 7 2025
A slight warming trend will continue through the weekend as high
pressure builds over the Pacific Northwest. Today, temperatures will
be coolest across the Central Coast and warm into the upper 50s to
lower 60s and low-to-mid 60s across the greater Bay Area under
mostly sunny skies. Generally light winds will become onshore and
breezy in the afternoon hours.
Tonight will be another chilly one with temperatures in the mid 30s
across the North Bay Valleys, upper 30s across the East Bay, and low-
to-mid 40s across the Bay Area. Meanwhile, overnight temperatures
are forecast to be in the upper 30s to lower 40s across the Central
Coast and low-to-mid 30s across the Southern Salinas Valley,
Mountains of San Benito and interior Monterey County. Thus, a Frost
Advisory has been issued for the aforementioned zones from 1 AM to 9
AM Saturday morning.
After a chilly start to the day, Saturday afternoon will be slightly
warmer with temperatures across the interior warming into the upper
60s to near 70 degrees F. Near the coast, expecting temperatures to
be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Saturday night through next Thursday)
Issued at 107 PM PST Fri Mar 7 2025
Sunday afternoon temperatures will be similar those on Saturday
before a cut-off low pressure approaches from the west Sunday night.
Rain will be possible, especially across the Central Coast, on
Monday. However, confidence is increasing for it to have minimal
impacts across the region. The current forecast indicates no more
than 0.33" in the highest peaks of the Santa Lucia Rage, 0.10" in
the Santa Cruz Mountains, with less than a 0.10" across the
remainder of the Central Coast. The North Bay and greater San
Francisco Bay Area look to be dry. This is as the low pressure
center moves in over southern California.
Then, we are expecting a weak atmospheric river to impact the region
from late Tuesday through Thursday. This system isn`t currently
forecast to stall over any one area and should move from north to
south across the Bay Area and Central Coast. Most of the rain
currently looks to fall on Wednesday and Wednesday night when minor
flooding concerns will be possible. Winds will likely be a concern
on Wednesday as well with the peaks across the region gusting to 60+
mph and 35-45 mph in the lower elevations. Early estimates suggest
that rain totals from Tuesday afternoon through Friday range from 1-
2" across the region, 2-3" in the North Bay, and up to 5" in the
coastal ranges. Again, details remain a bit difficult to pin point
this far out. Thus, continue to check back in the coming days for
additional details.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 908 PM PST Fri Mar 7 2025
VFR continues through the TAF period for most terminals, with the
exception of KMRY and KSTS as models continue to show possible MVFR
conditions overnight briefly for both terminals but confidence is
low to moderate. High confidence that VFR will return by 16-17Z, if
conditions become MVFR overnight. Moderate to light winds through
the TAF period.
Vicinity of SFO...VFR through the TAF period. There is a chance for
FEW/SCT low clouds to develop during the overnight hours tonight and
Saturday night over the terminal. Moderate winds continue to
diminish to light winds overnight and will prevail through the
remainder of the TAF period.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR but there is a chance for MVFR
conditions near KMRY but confidence is low to moderate, as some
models show that VFR may prevail through the TAF period.
&&
.MARINE...
(Tonight through next Thursday)
Issued at 908 PM PST Fri Mar 7 2025
Moderate to fresh northwesterly breeze with moderate seas between
6 to 9 feet through the weekend. Winds increase Monday as a storm
system moves into southern California with locally fresh
southerly winds, moderate seas, and light rain expected Monday to
Tuesday. A series of low pressure systems will reach the West
Coast starting Wednesday bringing hazardous conditions through
the end of the forecast period. The first system will bring fresh
to strong winds and rough seas between 12 to 15 feet to the
coastal waters.
